Harlan Parents Warned of Suspicious Stranger Incident Wednesday

A strange man "persistently" offered a mother and child walking to school a ride Wednesday morning near Adams and Binbrooke.

Harlan Elementary parents are being cautioned after a suspicious incident involving a stranger and a student walking to school occurred Wednesday morning.

According to an email sent home to parents by Harlan principal Embekka Thompson, the incident occurred in the area of Adams and Binbrooke roads in Troy, only a few minutes north of the Birmingham elementary school.

Thompson said a parent and her child were walking to Harlan Wednesday morning when they were approached by a man in a white car. The man, Thompson said, persistently offered the pair a ride. The parent and child eventually made it to school and the man drove away.

Thompson said the school does not have a more-detailed description of the man or his car.

A police report was filed with the Troy Police Department, who are investigating the matter, while the Birmingham Police and Bloomfield Police have been made aware of the incident. The three departments will monitor the area closely, Thompson said.
