Going to Birmingham Groves Homecoming 2013

Groves High School celebrates its homecoming tonight by hosting Berkley, and the annual dance Saturday night.

Students, faculty, parents and alumni of Groves High School will celebrate fall homecoming this weekend, starting with events during school today and tonights a football game against Berkley High School Friday.

Pre-Party

Students in all grades will conclude spirit week by participating in field day activities starting at 12:55 p.m. They are also invited to stay after school Friday from 3-6 p.m. for a banner-making party in the west gym.

The Game

The Falcon football squad will put it's undefeated season (6-0) and OAA Blue Division lead (tied with Birmingham Seaholm, also 6-0) on the line tonight against the Berkley Bears (3-3) at 7 p.m. Led by senior Ross Williams, Groves' explosive offense continues to average nearly 49 points a game during the current six-game win streak. But the defense has been just as impressive, surrendering just 69 points all season, lowest in the OAA Blue. Tickets are $5 at the gate.

Adding to the excitement on the field will be halftime presentations of class banners and class skit performances, as well as introduction of the homecoming court and the crowning of the homecoming king and queen. The winner of Spirit Week — battle waged between the four grades all week long — will also be announced.

The Dance

The homecoming dance begins at 8 p.m. at the high school. Tickets and guest passes were on sale all week. A Groves I.D. card will be needed to enter the dance.The dance ends at 11 p.m. and students are expected to either drive or be driven home. Officials said parents should be aware of what their students are doing after the dance, reminding parents that they are legally required to maintain a substance-free setting at any "after-parties."
