Frigid Temperatures Close Birmingham Area Private Schools

Potentially dangerous wind chills will keep Birmingham-area private schools closed Tuesday.

Students at all Birmingham-area private schools will not be in classes Tuesday as the region copes with an Arctic blast of cold air expected to drop temperatures well below zero.

The National Weather Service upgraded a wind chill advisory watch to a warning Monday afternoon in anticipation of a blast of Arctic air that will blanket the region for several days. Officials with the Bloomfield Hills Schools and Birmingham Public Schools joined several districts in cancelling Tuesdays classes by Monday afternoon.

It is the fourth or fifth snow day of the short new year for most or all of the of the area private schools as well.

The following Birmingham-area private schools will not be open Wednesday:

  • Academy of the Sacred Heart
  • Brother Rice High School
  • Cranbrook Schools
  • Detroit Country Day
  • Eton Academy
  • Hillel Day School
  • Marian High School
  • Roeper Lower and Upper School
  • St. Hugo of the Hills School
