Detroit Country Day Showcases Young Artists

The works created this year by the next generation of promising artists will be on display Sunday afternoon

Our pick for today: Celebrate the Arts at DCDS

  • When: noon to 4 p.m., Sunday
  • Where: Detroit Country Day 
  • Cost: Free and open to the public
  • Why Go: Friends of the Arts Association will host a public event featuring original artwork and performances by Detroit Country Day School students at all grade levels. Many nationally recognized, promising artists will showcase their masterpieces from the past year, including 12 students that were awarded 14 National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards – making DCDS the most decorated school in Michigan for achievement in the arts.

Among those featured:

  • Ari Korotkin – A senior, musical prodigy and composer that recently performed with famed pianist Emanuel Ax while serving as concertmaster for the Detroit Symphony Civic Orchestra.
  • Jiwon Yun – A middle school student that won two National Scholastic Awards for her story writing and poetry. Jiwon will be honored at Carnegie Hall this coming May for her achievements.
  • Anna Zimmerman – A 4th grader whose artwork was selected as “best in show” in the elementary division for the Michigan Art Education Association’s Young @ Art Show—which is currently on display at the Michigan Historical Museum.
