Birmingham Schools Set to Pay $100,000 to Install Visitor Notification Systems

Birmingham's newest safety tactic — installing visitor notification sytems at every building — is back on the agenda for the Birmingham Board of Education Tuesday night.

School board meetings typically begin with a Superintendent's Report and comments from individual school board members, followed by a public comment section.

Those wishing to make public comment are encouraged to fill out a white card at the beginning of the meeting.

Reports

  • Deputy Superintendent Paul DeAngelis will report on the district's policies concerning student accidents, illnesses and concussions. 
  • DeAngelis will also discuss entrance ages for Birmingham kindergardeners.
  • Dandridge Floyd, Birmingham's new assistant superintendent for human resources, will discuss the district's policies regarding the Family Medical Leave Act, or FMLA.

Resolutions

  • Personnel: Routine personnel action, including new hires, resignations, leaves of absences and retirements.
  • Vendor contract: Award a contract to Newkirk Electric Associates to install new Visitor Notification Systems at the main entrance of every school building. The total cost of the project is $106,807.
