24 Birmingham Employees Make Plans to Retire, Resign at End of School Year

Take a look at who's wrapping up their last year at Birmingham Public Schools.

The Birmingham Board of Education approved the retirements and resignations of more than 24 employees at its May 15 meeting, mostly teachers and paraprofessionals.

According to Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Jon Dean, the 24 employees have more than 200 years of service to the school district.

Retirements

TEACHERS:

  • Susan Dilgard: Dilgard is a speech pathologist at the and has spent 21 years in the district.
  • Polly Gumina: Gumina is a special education teacher at and has spent 26 years in the district.
  • Judith McCutcheon: McCutcheon is a social studies teacher at Groves High School and has spent 17 years with the district.
  • Victoria Pascaretti: Pascaretti is a teacher facilitator at and elementaries and has spent 24 years in the district.
  • Jeanne Pierce: Pierce is a classroom teacher at and has spent 10 years in the district.
  • Christine Woods: Woods is a physical education teacher at Greenfield Elementary and has been with the district for 20 years.
  • Daniel Wroblewski: Wroblewski is a fine arts teacher at Groves High School and has been with the district for 17 years.

ADMINISTRATORS:

  • Deborah Dubey: Dubey heads up the business department at and has spent 26 years in the district.
  • John Lawson: Lawson heads up the social studies department at Groves High School and has spent 24 years in the district.

OPERATIONAL STAFF:

  • Nancy Evangelista: Evangelista is a media tech at Pembroke Elementary and Harlan Elementary and has been with the district 31 years.

PARAPROFESSIONAL STAFF:

  • Alicia Burrows: Burrows is a paraeducator at Seaholm High School, and has been with the district for 12 years.
  • Melodie Grimes: Grimes is a paraeducator for Derby Middle School and has been with the district for 18 years.
  • Dale Hakim-Waldon: Hakim-Waldon is a paraeducator in ESL and has been with the district for 26 years.
  • Carol Hanchett: Hanchett is a paraeducator at Groves High School and has been with the district 10 years.
  • Shirley Paskett: Paskett is a paraeducator at Pembroke Elementary and has been with the district 27 years.
  • Judith Parrish: Parrish is a paraeducator at Seaholm High School and has been with the district 12 years.
  • Hertisene Sumler: Sumler is a paraeducator at Seaholm High School and has been with the district 13 years.

SECRETARIAL STAFF:

  • Lee Sinclair: Sinclair is an office assistance in the district's finance department and has been with the district for 17 years.
  • Mary Ellen Smith: Smith is a secretary at Groves High School and has been with the district 32 years.

Resignations

TEACHERS:

  • Jennifer Atkins: Atkins is a classroom grade teacher at and has spent nine years in the district.
  • Charity Lemke: Lemke is a classroom teacher at and has spent nine years in the district.
  • Elizabeth Merrell: Merrell is a resource program teacher at and has spent four years with the district.
  • Jayanne Roggenbaum: Roggenbaum is a psychologist from and has been with the district for eight years.
  • Dawn Sue: Sue is a teacher at and and has been with the district for three years.
