Congrats to Le Petit Prince: Voted as Having the Best Pastry in Birmingham

Le Petit Prince was voted No. 1 in Patch's weekly poll of places to find the best pastry, doughnut or bagel in Birmingham.

With paczki in high demand this past Tuesday, Patch wanted to put your love of Birmingham's doughnuts, bagels and other pastries to the test and after a week of voting, readers have made it clear — has the best pastries in town.

Readers had a long list of Birmingham's pastry staples to choose from in   — from the grocery-shopping staple, , to downtown's to the relative newcomer, .

Le Petit Prince, located near the corner of Pierce and 14 Mile Road, has been creating authentic french pastries since it opened in 1979. Owned and operated by the Didierjeans family — made up of Yvette, Marcel and their children Cyril, Adrian and Gregory — Le Petit Prince became a reality after Yvette and Marcel moved to the United States from France in 1979.

In an interview with Patch, Birmingham resident Sheryl Granada said she oftentimes stops by Le Petit Prince after she picks up her dry cleaning down the road.

"This place is great," Granada said. "We stop by if the kids do well on a project or a test. The staff is nice and I like to expose my kids to a different culture's food."

"This is an amazing family-owned, authentically French bakery," she writes. "Everything is fresh and created on the premises ... Their chocolate croissants are to die for!! Why would anyone want to buy croissants trucked in from a corporate commissary to a chain store, when they're freshly baked here?"
