Jack Connelly, one of the four candidates running for a spot on the Birmingham Board of Education, has dropped out of the race, a memo sent to the school board and administration says.
According to Birmingham Public Schools spokeswoman Marcia Wilkinson, she and members of the school board received an email from Connelly Monday morning, noting that due to professional obligations, he wasn't going to continue his campaign.
"Due to unforseen professional obligations," Wilkinson said the email from Connelly reads, "it would make it impossible for me to execute the duties of the job effectively."
This is the second time Connelly has run for the Birmingham Board of Education. In November 2011, Connelly ran against incumbents Chris Conti and Rob Lawrence for two spots on the school board, coming in third with 28 percent of the vote.
Connelly, who works with United National Foods, has lived in Birmingham for going on five years with his wife and five children, three of whom attend Derby Middle School, route: {:controller=>"listings", :action=>"show", :id=>"derby-middle-school"} --> and
