In Brief: City Receives 'Lucky at Love' Sculpture

The Birmingham City Commission accepts the Christopher Yockey sculpture and will place it along West Maple Road.

The Birmingham City Commission voted Monday night to accept the sculpture Lucky at Love, Unlucky at Game, You Can't Have it All by Christopher Yockey.

Following the recomendation by the Public Arts Board, the sculpture will be placed on the south side of West Maple Road in the right of way near the juncture of and . The sculpture will be on loan to the city as part of its CityScapes program.

Yockey created The Counselor, located on the east face of the North Old Woodward Parking Structure. For this second sculpture, the Cultural Council of Birmingham/Bloomfield will cover the insurance costs. All other fees, including installations and transport, will be handled by Yockey.

Lucky at Love was created in 2010, is constructed of steel and is 10 feet tall and eight feet wide. No maintenance is required, Yockey said.
