In Brief: Commission Requests More Info on Bike Festival
City officials postpone making a decision on the downtown even and approve use of grant money.
Much of the Birmingham Monday night at revolved around the possibility of the Surnow Co. holding the again next year in downtown Birmingham.
After much deliberation from the commissioners and some public comment, commissioners voted to postpone the decision on the festival, which took place for the first time on Aug. 28. Commissioners requested that Jeff Surnow, owner of the , come up with a solid game plan for the festivities focusing on how to minimize the disruption to residents in the immediate area, specifically those living at the Merrillwood Building.
Community development block grant funds
In addition to the bike festival discussion, a public hearing took place on the use of community development block grant funds. No one from the community stood to discuss the topic, and after a short presentation, the commissioners approved spending the $30,933 of grant money on revamping the rear porch and the entrance, among other items.
