Freedom Hill to Reopen This Summer

Macomb County and Hillside Productions, the amphitheater's operator, have come to an agreement to reopen the venue.

The Hill is alive with the sound of music—Freedom Hill, that is.

Freedom Hill Amphitheater in Sterling Heights will reopen this summer, Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel announced in a press release Friday.

“Music to my ears: we've got a plan in place that has Freedom Hill set to reopen this summer!,” Hackel said on his Twitter account, @MarkHackel.

The amphitheater had been closed since 2009 and the surrounding county park had been closed since 2010 because of budget cuts.

But Freedom Hill will reopen this summer thanks in part to a resolution involving Macomb County and Hillside Productions, the operators of the amphitheater.

Hillside will proceed under the previous agreement it had with the county, according to the release, and the company is in the process of lining up performances for the season.

“We see the reopening to be a win for everyone.” Hackel said in the press release. “The public will have greater access to national entertainment opportunities and local businesses will benefit from more customers coming to the area. It is just one more reason why people would want to make Macomb their home.”

Last year, for Chippewa Valley and high schools from Freedom Hill.
