Woman Attacked After Leaving Bus in Ferndale

Police said the woman used her keys to free herself from the attacker.

Ferndale Police are looking for a man who reportedly followed and attacked a woman after she left a bus stop at Eight Mile and Livernois.

At about 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, police took a report from a 24-year-old woman who said that she was just attacked by an unknown man, according to a news release from Ferndale Police.

The victim said that she first encountered the man while she was waiting for a bus at Eight Mile and Warren in Detroit. The man drove up in a blue/gray colored mini-van and asked her if she needed a ride. She declined and the man told her that he would follow the bus.

The victim then got on the bus and rode to Eight Mile and Livernois where she got off. She looked for the man, but did not see him. She walked north on Livernois for several blocks and then was attacked by the same man she had seen earlier.

Police said the man grabbed her from behind and began to drag her. The woman had keys in her hand and used them to defend herself by hitting the attacker with the keys.

During the struggle, the woman was not injured, but her glasses were broken.
The attacker may have injuries from being scratched by the keys, the report states.

The suspect is described as a white man, around 50 years old, with slicked back grey hair and a grey mustache. He was driving an unknown make or model blue/gray colored minivan.

Anybody with information on this incident should call Ferndale Police at 248-541-3650 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.

This is crazy. The Livernois and 8 mile bus stop seems to be crime central lately. As a mass transit rider, I think it is time to invest in some pepper spray.

I think its time for Detroit to step up people are being killed and robbed every day and its ashame that we don't have the protection that we need the mayor and other polickal parties are worried about the wrong thing instead of worrying about building bridges they need to worry about getting the guns off the street and the ones that are killing children and robbing pastors and senior citizens this is a life that we have to live everyday not a fairytale story that someone wrote or we are reading

Johnae, how did this turn into an anti gun debate? When you take guns away from law abiding citizens only the criminals will have them, now that's a problem!

Exactly Steve, How did this become a pro arms debate? Johnae said we need to keep the guns off of the streets. When did he imply law abiding citizens were on the streets?...oh wait, I suppose the Connecticut kid killer was law. abiding before murdering all those people.
