Teens Busted for Car Break-Ins, Spraying People With Super Soakers

Police charge 2 teens with breaking into cars on Fairfax

Two 17-year-old boys from Birmingham were arrested early Sunday morning and charged with larceny after police say the broke into several cars in the 300 block of Fairfax.

According to police reports, a resident on that block watched a young man enter his vehicle around 1:25 a.m. Sunday. The man appeared to remove items while another young man waited near the sidewalk, the resident reported. The resident then watched the first young man go across the street and enter another vehicle.

The responding officers apprehended both boys while one was in the process of taking items from a vehicle. Both were taken into custody and charged with larceny from auto, then turned over to their parents with a court appearance date.

Fight breaks out in Leo's Coney Island

Police are investigating an assault that occurred early Saturday morning at . According to police reports, a 22-year-old woman from Detroit was sitting in the restaurant when she was approached by a 25-year-old man — an acquaintance, she told police — from Bloomfield Township.

The two began arguing and then physically fighting. The man immediately left the area and was stopped by police later in Beverly Hills. The man and woman, along with several witnesses, gave conflicting stories of who assaulted who first. Both were released and detectives are following up.

Birmingham resident victim of Craigslist fraud

Birmingham Police are investigating after a resident was the victim of a fraudulent Craigslist scheme. According to police reports, the victim found a vehicle for sale on Craigslist in which the seller said he was in the military, was being shipped overseas and needed to sell his car quickly for $3,000.

All exchanges between the victim and seller were conducted via email, reports state, and the seller requested a down payment of $1,970 to be sent by Western Union to a subject at "Google Checkout" in Florida. The money order was sent, but received by a bogus name and address, reports state. The victim reported the fraud Sunday and detectives are investigating.

Teens arrested for allegedly spraying people with Super Soakers

Three teens from Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills were arrested for disorderly conduct last week, after allegedly spraying passers-by with Super Soakers.

According to police reports, the three teens — two 18-year-old women from Birmingham and a 19-year-old man from Bloomfield Hills — were driving on South Old Woodward near Hazel at around 6:50 p.m. May 10. A woman walking by reported to police that the teens' vehicle drove by her, and all three tried to spray her with water using water guns.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle, identify the occupants and confiscate the water guns. All three were later charged with disorderly conduct.

Cash, wheel covers, golf clubs taken from vehicles

Numerous items were taken from vehicles in Birmingham this week:

  • A woman's purse was taken from a vehicle parked on the 1300 block of Bird overnight Saturday. It is unknown if the vehicle was locked. The purse was later located in Royal Oak with all the contents intact.
  • Two sets of golf clubs and bags, as well as two pairs of sunglasses, were taken from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway on the 600 block of Westchester.
  • A purse, along with the $15 inside it, was taken from a car parked in a driveway on the 500 block of Glenhurst sometime between May 10-13. The purse was later recovered on a neighbor's lawn.
  • An unknown amount of change was taken from an unlocked vehicle parked in a parking lot on the 1800 block of Graefield sometime Saturday night.
  • Four wheel covers were taken from a 2006 GMC Envoy parked in the parking lot of sometime between 10:15 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.
