Teen Leads Police on Car Chase; Men Arrested in Attempted Diaper Theft

Men attempt to steal diapers, Red Bull from Kroger

Two men were arrested Monday afternoon for trying to steal Red Bull, baby forumla and Pampers diapers from .

According to police reports, officers watched one of the men push a full cart out of the store without paying for the items around 3 p.m. Employees confronted the man, who then ran toward a waiting car with a second man in the driver's seat. The car wouldn't start.

The first man then ran into the neighborhood north of the store while the second man was caught by responding officers while he was still in the car. The first man was caught a short time later, discovered hiding in a tree two blocks away. Both men — 28-year-olds from St. Clair Shores and Fair Haven — were charged with retail fraud and possession of drug paraphernalia, which was later found in their car.

Teen leads police on car chase along Lincoln

A 17-year-old from Birmingham was arrested May 18 after leading police officers on a car chase on Lincoln Avenue.

According to police reports, officers observed a car heading eastbound on Lincoln near Woodward Avenue around 12:45 a.m. May 18. When officers tried to stop the car it fled and after a short chase the car crashed into two trees and two parked cars near Lincoln and Chester.

Police said the teen took his parent's car without permission and didn't have a driver's license. The driver was also suspected of being under the influence of narcotics. The teen was released to his parents.

Man tries to take champagne from liquor store

Police arrested a 39-year-old Royal Oak man Tuesday afternoon for trying to steal champagne from . According to police reports, employees watched the man place two bottles of Moet champagne under his clothes and walk out of the store around 5:45 p.m. He was detained until police arrived.

Woman kicked out of Corner Bar, arrested for disorderly conduct

A 29-year-old woman from Birmingham was arrested late May 18 at for disorderly conduct. According to police reports, the woman was escorted from the bar for bothering customers around 1:30 a.m. Police say the woman assaulted the bar's employee and was confrontational with responding officers. Police believe the woman was intoxicated and held her until sober.

Sleeping man in car had drugs, police say

Police arrested a 28-year-old Detroit man for possession of marijuana early Monday morning. According to police reports, the man was found sleeping in his car near North Old Woodward and Euclid with his door open. A police search revealed the man had both marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Wallet taken from park, laptop taken from unlocked car

Numerous items were reported taken around Birmingham this week:

  • A Dell laptop computer was taken from an unlocked car parked in a driveway on the 1000 block of Lincoln overnight May 17-18.
  • A Redmax backpack leaf blower was taken from a garage on the 800 block of Puritan overnight May 18. Entry was gained by prying open a side door.
  • A wallet was taken from a purse at from 3-5 p.m. Saturday. The woman said she initially put her purse on the ground while playing with her kids.
  • A purse and cell phone were taken from the bar area of around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. The owner said she placed them on the bar and turned around.
