Suspected Drunken Driver Gets Stuck in Median; Women Arrested Outside South Bar

Car gets stuck in Woodward median, driver suspected of drunken driving

Birmingham Police arrested a 20-year-old from Sterling Heights on Sunday night on suspicion of drunken driving after he got stuck in the median on Woodward Avenue.

According to police, officers responded to a call around 11 p.m. that a car was stuck in the center median on Woodward near the Maple Road intersection. When officers got there, the driver said he spun out when he pulled out of the and became stuck in the median.

The man was taken into custody and then to St. Joseph Mercy Oakland hospital in Pontiac for a blood sample to determine his alcohol level. Police say there was minor damage done to the grassy area in the median.

Young women nabbed for disorderly conduct, minors in possession outside South Bar

A group of young women were charged with disorderly conduct and illegally possessing alcohol early Monday morning outside  in downtown Birmingham.

According to police reports, officers saw one of the security guards from South escorting a young woman outside the bar around 1:30 a.m. She was part of a group with four other women, police said.

Upon being let go by the security guard, police say the woman began swinging her arms at another group of women, attempting to hit one of them. Officers took the woman — a 21-year-old from Waterford — into custody for disorderly conduct.

At that point, police say a second woman from the group, a 21-year-old from Pontiac, ran across the street to continue arguing with the other group of women. She was also detained by police and charged with disorderly conduct.

Upon speaking with the other three women who were with the Waterford and Pontiac women, police determined all three were underage and all three had been drinking. The women — from Detroit and Mobile, AL — were charged with being minors in possession. The three underage women said they had not been drinking while at South Bar.

Quick Lube windows shot with BB gun

Several windows of the at 33300 Woodward Ave. were shot with a BB gun sometime overnight June 20-21, police say. Detectives are reviewing surveillance cameras from the area for clues.

Two catalytic converters stolen from cars, outdoor table taken from Luxe

Several items were reported missing from Birmingham over the week:

  • One catalytic converter was reported taken from a 2000 Oldsmobile on the 300 block of North Eton while the car was parked in a lot between 8:30 p.m. June 21 and 3 p.m. June 22. Police say it appears a saw was used to cut the converter out.
  • Another catalytic converter was also reported taken from a 2000 Pontiac while it was parked in a parking lot on the 2400 block of Maple Road sometime between 1:30 p.m. Sunday and 12:30 p.m. Monday. Police say it appears a saw was also used to cut out the converter in this incident.
  • An outdoor table from was reported taken some time overnight on Sunday. The table was valued at approximately $300.
