Suspect Charged in Seaholm High School Carjacking

Roland Javondeshawn Hubbard, 18, remains at the Oakland County Jail on $1 million bond.

A Detroit teen faces six felony charges stemming from Tuesday's early-morning carjacking at Seaholm High School.

Roland Javondeshawn Hubbard, 18, was recently arraigned at 48th District Court on single counts of carjacking, armed robbery, fleeing and eluding police, and three counts of possessing a firearm during a felony, records show. He remained at the Oakland County Jail Friday on $1 million bond an faces a preliminary hearing later this month.

Investigators believe Hubbard approached a custodian outside the west entrance of Seaholm High School shortly before 5 a.m. and fired a gunshot into the air while demanding the man's cash, cell phone, and keys, Birmingham Police Lt. Terry Kiernan said.

The victim dropped his belongings and ran. While running away, he said he heard a second shot and saw another suspect run toward his vehicle, Kiernan said. Both suspects fled in the victim's Grand Marquis, which officers in Madison Heights spotted on I-75 headed toward Detroit. After a brief chase, the suspects ditched the vehicle in the area of 7 Mile and Conant roads and ran off, Kiernan said. Police caught Hubbard and found a handgun near the vehicle. The second suspect remains at large.

School district officials closed Seaholm for the day while the immediate investigation was ongoing. Classes resumed Tuesday at normal time.

Kiernan said Hubbard did not cooperate with detectives and the investigation is ongoing.
