Police Search for Man Suspected in Attempted Theft at Apartment

Residents confront man in storage area

Police are looking for a man who several residents believe was stealing from the basement of an apartment building on North Eton.

According to police reports, a resident living in the apartment building at 451 N. Eton saw the man in building's basement around 11:25 a.m. Saturday. The man was holding a black plastic bag, the resident said, inside of which was an antique case for a musical instrument. The resident told police he thought it came from one of the storage areas in the building's basement.

The resident confronted the man and was able to retrieve the case, reports say, though the man tried to flee the basment by running up the stairs. At the top of the stairs, another of the building's residents tried to hold the man until police arrived, but the man was able to break free and fled the area on foot.

According to reports, the man is described as white, around 35 years old, with missing front teeth and brown hair. He was wearing a blue University of Michigan jacket with a gold "M" on it, a blue hoodie, blue jeans and work boots.

The storage area was not locked and police are unsure how the man entered the building. A further search of the basement determined nothing else missing.

Homeless man taken into custody after argument at Panera

Police arrested a homeless man with a felony warrant outside  on Tuesday after he argued with employees there. According to reports, police were dispatched to Panera around 11:30 a.m. after the restaurant called in a complaint, noting there was trouble with a customer.

Officers spoke with the man, known to Birmingham police as homeless with a last-known address in Romulus, discovering the man had a felony warrant out of Waterford Township for larceny as well as a warrant out for absconding parole. Police said the man had been seen recently walking through several buildings and businesses around town.

Man arrested with marijuana

A 21-year-old man from Mount Pleasant was arrested Saturday morning for possession of marijuana. According to police reports, the man was seen walking near the corner of West Lincoln and Pleasant around 3 a.m. Saturday with a backpack. Deeming the situation suspicious, police questioned the man, who said he was staying at a friend's house in the area. Officers discovered a small amount of marijuana in the backpack and took the man into the custody. The man was later released after posting bond.
