Police Search for Stolen Chrysler Sebring; Minors Arrested for Alcohol Possession

The following is a roundup of recent reports:

19-year-old from Hazel Park caught hanging out car window

Birmingham police arrested two young men from Ferndale and Hazel Park early Saturday morning for being in possession of alcohol as minors as well as hanging out a car window.

According to police reports, officers saw the vehicle traveling on Woodward near Hamilton Row at around 2:50 a.m. Saturday. The front seat passenger was hanging out the window, reports state.

When officers stopped the vehicle, they saw it was occupied by two passengers — one in the front seat — in addition to the driver. According to reports, officers saw an open bottle of liquor on the car floor; officers also smelled alcohol coming from both the driver and front seat passenger. An inspection of their IDs revealed all three were under 21.

The driver, a 20-year-old from Ferndale, and the front seat passenger, a 19-year-old from Hazel Park, were taken into custody for being minors in possession of alcohol, as well as having open intoxicants in a motor vehicle. The 19-year-old was also charged with riding outside a motor vehicle. The rear passenger was released at the scene.

Upon being taken into custody, police discovered the 19-year-old had two outstanding warrants from neighboring jurisdictions and so he was turned over to one of the departments with a warrant. The driver eventually posted bond and was released with a court date.

Tires, laptop taken from parked cars overnight

Two tires were taken from a Ford Explorer parked on the 400 block of Wimbleton early Monday morning. According to police reports, the homeowner heard a noise outside at around 1:30 a.m. Monday and saw an unknown vehicle speeding away. The homeowner discovered the two passenger side tires from their Explorer had been taken while the driver's side tires had the lug nuts removed.

In addition, a laptop and suitcase were taken from a car parked on the 2700 block of Buckingham on Saturday night. According to reports, the car was parked unlocked in the street in front of the victim's home.

Birmingham man arrested for driving with suspended license

A Birmingham man was arrested April 13 when he was caught driving with a suspended license. At around 3:20 p.m., an officer patrolling the Quarton Lake subdivision saw a car run a stop sign at Redding and Lakeside. The driver was a 47-year-old from Birmingham who, officers later discovered, had a suspended and revoked driver's license. According to police reports, there was also an open bottle of champagne in the car along with two passengers. The man was charged with driving with a suspended license and having open intoxicants in a vehicle.

Blue Chrysler Sebring taken from Colonial Court

A blue 2002 Chrysler Sebring was stolen from the 700 block of Colonial Court on Tuesday. According to police reports, the theft occurred sometime between 7:20 a.m.-1:10 p.m. The car was parked in a carport, reports state.
