Police Officer Assaulted; Vehicle Stolen in Birmingham

The Birmingham Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.


A 43-year-old Berkley man faces charges for punching a Birmingham police officer following an arrest for public urination, police reports said. 

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department saw the man urinating in the bushes outside of the Townsend Bakery at about 3 a.m. Nov. 28, and approached him. The man ran off, leading police on a brief foot chase. Once they caught up to him, the man allegedly turned and punched an officer in the face, reports said. No one was injured. 

Police arrested the man without further incident and charged him with disorderly conduct and assaulting an officer. A court date is pending. 

Stolen Vehicle

A resident in the 400 block of Bird Street told police reported that his vehicle was stolen from the street after he started it to warm up on Nov. 28. The man told police he left it unlocked and running at about 1 p.m. The vehicle was gone when he returned about 15 minutes later. The investigation is ongoing.

Malicious Destruction

A resident in the 1300 block of Suffield Street reported the rear window to their vehicle was smashed out sometime between 10 p.m on Nov. 27 and 6 a.m. on Nov. 28. The vehicle was parked on the side of the road in front of the home. Nothing was reported stolen, and no suspect information was available.
