Police Make Drunken Driving, Marijuana-Related Arrests in Birmingham

The Birmingham Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department stopped several motorists on suspicion of operating while under the influence or being in a vehicle in the presence of illegal drugs over the past week. Here are the incidents highlighted from recent police reports.

  • A 30-year-old woman from Walled Lake was arrested and issued citations for operating while intoxicated and possession of marijuana on June 2, reports said. Birmingham police officers approached her vehicle after it stopped and blocked the service drive off of Woodward, south of Ruffner at about 3 a.m. The driver, appeared under the influence of alcohol and officers found marijuana in her possession. A passenger, a 28-year-old woman from West Bloomfield, was issued a citation for open intoxicants-passenger.
  • A Birmingham officer stopped a vehicle in the area of Woodward and Daines after witnessing suspicious behavior from its occupants at about 3 a.m. on June 2. One passenger, an 18-year-old Royal Oak man, had marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his possession. Police arrested him, issued citations for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, and released on bond with a pending court date. Another passenger, a 19-year-old Lewiston man, was issued a ticket for possession of paraphernalia.  
  • A 35-year-old Birmingham man faces charges for drunken driving and driving on a suspended license after he fled his vehicle to try and avoid officers on May 31. A Birmingham police officer started to follow the vehicle after seeing it drive erratically on Woodward near Webster at about 3 a.m., reports said. As the officer was about to initiate a stop, the driver pulled over and fled on foot. The officers followed and apprehend the man, who also had an expired driver's license. Charges are pending on both offenses.
