Police Investigate Thefts from Cars, Home Invasion

Jewelry taken during home invasion on Mohegan

Several pieces of jewelry were taken during a home invasion March 8. According to police reports, a homeowner on the 500 block of Mohegan left the home from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. that Thursday. When they returned, they found someone had entered the house, ransacked several of the bedrooms and took several pieces of jewelry. Police determined the suspect or suspects entered the home through an unlocked garage door. Detectives continue to investigate.

Police investigate string of thefts from cars

Birmingham police are investigating several thefts from cars overnight March 8-9. According to police reports, vehicles were broken into on the 2700 block of Windemere, the 1300 block of Smith and the 600 block of Harmon.

The car on Windemere was parked overnight on the street and at around 6:15 a.m. March 9, a passer-by called police to report that the vehicle — a 2012 Chevrolet SUV — was missing all four of its tires and was up on wood blocks. The owner of the SUV told police this was the second time this had occurred.

On Smith Street, the car was parked in the owner's driveway and left unlocked overnight. Two pairs of sunglasses and a GPS device were discovered missing the next morning, police report. Meanwhile, on Harmon, an iPhone was taken from an unlocked car parked in the owner's driveway.

Sunglasses taken from front porch on Larchlea

A $300 pair of sunglasses was taken from a front porch after a homeowner went for a walk, police say. According to police reports, the incident occurred around noon Tuesday on the 200 block of Larchlea. The homeowner went for short walk, leaving their prescription sunglasses on the front porch, reports state. When they returned, the sunglasses were gone and a flyer for a landscaping company had been left at the door. Detectives are investigating.

Man hits SMART bus, arrested for driving with suspended license

A 24-year-old from Detroit was arrested for driving with a suspended license after he ran into a SMART bus at South Old Woodward and Frank Street on Tuesday.

According to police reports, the man struck the bus from behind in his 2000 Pontiac Grand Am; no injuries were reported. The man told police he dropped his cell phone and was picking it up when the accident occurred.

A background check of the driver revealed two outstanding traffic warrants from other cities, as well as a suspended license. The man was taken into custody and charged with driving with a suspended license as well as failing to stop.
