UPDATE: 2 Men Charged With Attempted Breaking and Entering at Abbott's Coins & Jewelry

Police are still looking for a third suspect in an early-morning break-in at Abbott's Coin and Jewelry.

The two men who police say attempted to break into Birmingham's Monday were arraigned Wednesday morning in 48th District Court.

Detroit's Leroy Newson, 22, and Hamtramck's Carlton Ashford, 21, were charged with attempted breaking and entering Wednesday morning, a five-year felony. Newson was given a $100,000 bond while Ashford was bonded at $50,000.

The two men were caught early Monday morning after responded to an alarm at the Woodward Avenue store at 3:55 a.m.

Birmingham Police Cmdr. Terry Kiernan said a third man fled the scene when police arrived. A K-9 unit was used to track him to the area of Woodward and Normandy in Royal Oak, police were unable to find him.

According to police, a window on the north side of the building was broken with a brick, which activated the alarm. Police believe this is how the men tried to enter the building.

This isn't the first time Abbott's Coin & Jewelry has been a target. On April 3, , police said. According to police, the business reported another break-in last Thursday.
