Police Blotter: Woman Arrested at Post Office, Pricey Jacket Missing

Woman arrested after bursting into post office

A young woman was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct Tuesday after bursting into the on Bowers Street. According to police reports, the woman entered the post office around 5:20 a.m., yelling that someone was trying to assault and kill her. When officers arrived, they suspected the woman was intoxicated and performed a Breathalyzer test to confirm she was. According to reports, the woman was aggressive while officers took her into custody.

It was later discovered that the woman had been at her friend’s apartment next door to the post office immediately before the incident. According to reports, she was too loud and had been escorted out of the apartment by her friends. She then ran into the post office's front lobby, after which employees there called the police.

Police alert businesses after $699 jacket reported missing

Birmingham police alerted businesses in the downtown  on Wednesday about an alleged theft of a $699 jacket from  earlier in the week. According to police reports, store employees said a man entered the store around 4 p.m. Saturday. A female employee told police she asked the man if he needed help but he declined, saying he was waiting for his girlfriend. The employee then turned to help two women who had entered the store a few minutes before.

The employee told police that soon after she heard a coat rack near the front door bang around. She said she turned to see the man run out of the store with what appeared to be something under his jacket. According to police, the employee watched the man run southbound on Old Woodward Avenue near Brown Street. Upon returning to the store, the employee noticed the two women had left as well, police said.

Two days later, on Monday, store employees reported to police that a beige-colored leather jacket worth approximately $699 was missing. Police were not sure whether the two woman and man were working together, Detective Scott Grewe said.

The man is described as being around 50 years old, 6 foot 6 inches tall and 280 pounds and was wearing a white leather jacket, black pants and red shoes the day of the alleged theft.
