Birmingham and Troy Police checked the area and found the Pontiac parked a few blocks away, unoccupied. The K-9 unit from Troy began searching for the three suspects, but then police dispatchers received a 911 call from a woman who said her vehicle had been stolen and that she and her two friends — a man and woman — were at the intersection of Maple and Lake Park. The car reported stolen was the suspect Pontiac G6, the police report said.

The report further said that when officers arrived at Maple and Lake Park, one of the women ran away while the other two people were detained, the report said. The woman who first called the police was brought to the scene, and she identified the detained woman as being one of the three whom she saw going through cars, the police report said. The two detainees were taken into custody, and the woman who had run away was later found hiding in a nearby backyard. Reports stated that several pieces of stolen items were recovered from the Pontiac, and all three were later charged with larceny.
