Police Arrest North Carolina Man In Connection With Door-to-Door Solicitor Case

Authorities arrested a man in connection with a .

said Thursday that a 25-year-old man from Lincolnton, NC is the suspect who claimed to be a door-to-door magazine salesman. According to police reports, the man told a woman on Bowers that he was selling magazines for World Wide Circulation, Inc., a company based in St. Clair Shores.

The woman let the man inside her home while she went to find her purse, reports state, and while she was distracted, the man ran out the house with her wallet. A neighbor later found the wallet on a nearby sidewalk but the cash was missing. A K-9 unit was unable to locate the man.

The incident wasn't the first time Birmingham police received complaints of solicitors going door-to-door selling magazines. According to Cmdr. Terry Kiernan, the city has not issued any permits for a magazine company to solicit in the city, and if residents are approached by salespeople, they're encouraged to call police.

Police said Thursday the man had been released on bond.

Man involved in Troy motorcycle chase charged with fleeing and eluding

The motorcyclist involved with an earlier accident that sent a Troy police officer to the hospital was charged with felony fleeing and eluding at 48th District Court.

According to police reports, Birmingham police saw the motorcyclist — a 23-year-old man from Clarkston — driving recklessly around 10:40 p.m. Monday.

The motorcyclist fled officers and in the ensuing chase, a Troy officer flipped his patrol car trying to help, sustaining minor neck injuries.

The man was later apprehended near Maple and Thunderbird Road in Troy after Birmingham officers pursued the man through several Clawson neighborhoods. The man has been released on bond following his arraignment.
