A peculiar mystery that started in the dead of winter with the discovery of piles of human excrement on playground equipment at a popular southeast Michigan picnicking park has come to an end.
The foul behavior has been “corrected,” Ypsilanti police said Wednesday, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press. The slides at Prospect Park playground are once again safe to be used for their intended purpose.
A local marketing company offered its digital billboard space for a public awareness campaign urging motroists to do their “civic doody” and help authorities “flush” out the so-called “poopetrator.”
The #ypsipooper hash tag recommended in the campaign apparently worked, and police identified a “person of interest” shortly after cleverly messaged campaign was launched.
Police said in a statement Wednesday that they had a stern talk with a “person of interest” in the case, but lacked “enough substantiated information to conclude that this subject has done anything wrong.”Police said in January they planned to respond to community concerns by installing a hidden camera that might catch the suspect in the act, but the cameras didn’t record any suspect behavior.
