Motorists, Minors Arrested For Drunken Driving and Drugs in Birmingham

The Birmingham Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department made several arrests for alcohol or drug-related crimes over the past week. Here are the incidents highlighted from recent police reports.

  • An officer responded to a report of someone drinking alcohol in a van parked in Kroger's parking lot at about 7:30 p.m. Dec. 23. The officer found a 20-year-old man from Waterloo, Ontario, drinking wine and cited him for being a minor in possession of alcohol. A court date is pending.
  • A 34-year-old Clarkston man faces charges of being under the influence of alcohol and driving in violation of a restricted license after police stopped his vehicle for speeding in the area of Woodward and Webster at about 1:30 a.m. Dec. 27, reports said. The man's restricted license prohibits him from driving after 10 p.m. He was arrested and issued citations for operating while impaired and violation of restricted license.
  • Birmingham officers responded to reports of an erratic driver on Woodward near Big Beaver at about 2 p.m. Dec. 26, and stopped the vehicle driven by a 52-year-old Detroit man. Police determined the man was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him without incident. They issued a citation for operating while intoxicated and a court date is pending.
  • Birmingham police responded to reports of a vehicle that struck a road sign in Royal Oak and then drove erratically into Birmingham at about 1 a.m. Dec. 23, reports said. Officers stopped the vehicle in the area of Woodward and Hazel and determined that the driver, a 44-year-old Southfield man was under the influence of alcohol. Officers arrested him and issued a citation for operating while intoxicated, and he also received a citation from Royal Oak for leaving the scene of an accident, reports said.
  • An officer saw a vehicle driving slowly next to a person walking on the sidewalk near Woodward and Maple at about 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 23 and stopped the driver for questioning. The 31-year-old Birmingham man told police he was trying to convince his wife to get in the car with him, and the officer noticed the smell of intoxicants. Police arrested him without incident and issued a citation for operating while intoxicated and also driving with a suspended license.
  • A Birmingham officer saw a vehicle driving suspiciously in the area of Fourteen Mile and Cummings at about 1 a.m. Dec. 22, and stopped the driver. Reports said the officer found that a 24-year-old man from Clawson in the passenger seat was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Police arrested hm without incident and issued a citation for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
