Motorists Cited for Marijuana, Drunken Driving in Birmingham

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department made several arrests for alcohol or drug-related crimes over the past week. Here are the incidents highlighted from recent police reports.

  • A Birmingham officer arrested a 23-year-old Detroit man after he witnessed the driver swerving in and out lanes on Woodward Avenue near 14 Mile Road at about 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 24, reports said. The driver was under the influence of alcohol and was arrested without incident. The officer issued a citation for operating while intoxicated and a court date is pending.
  • An officer on patrol saw two people inside a vehicle parked near Rivenoak and Poppleton at about 3 a.m. on Nov. 23 and determined that the driver was in possession of marijuana, miscellaneous drug paraphernalia and an open bottle of liquor, reports said. The 35-year-old Birmingham woman received citations for possession of a controlled substance, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, open intoxicants in a vehicle and a miscellaneous misdemeanor. She was released pending a court hearing.
  • A 27-year-old Farmington Hills woman faces counts of operating while intoxicated and open intoxicants in a motor vehicle following her arrest near Maple Road and Park Street at about 2 a.m. on Nov. 21, police reports said. An officer pulled the woman over for speeding and determined she was under the influence of alcohol. An open bottle of vodka was found inside the vehicle. She was held until sober and released on bond.
