Man Recovering After Accidentally Shooting Himself in Penis

Glock goes off as the heating and cooling worker removed it from his pants outside a Birmingham home.

A 45-year-old Southfield Township man carrying a .40 caliber Glock handgun in his pants outside a Birmingham home accidentally shot himself Tuesday, Birmingham Police reported.

The bullet went through the victim’s penis and lodged in his leg, Cmdr. Terry Kiernan told the Oakland Press. He underwent surgery and is expected to recover, Kiernan said.

According to police, the incident occurred on the 300 block of Wimbleton around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. The man, who had arrived to do work for his heating and cooling business, was carrying the gun in the waistband of his pants. He told police that when he went to remove the gun so he could begin working, the gun accidentally went off and the bullet hit him in the lower waist area. A co-worker who saw the shooting drove the man to William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.
