Man Charged For Punching Female Manager at Birmingham Leo's Coney Island

The altercation stemmed from his refusal to order anything after sitting at restaurant for hours.

A Detroit man is expected in 48th District Court this week to face assault charges stemming from an altercation with the manager of the Leo's Coney Island in downtown Birmingham.

Birmingham police officers responded to a fight call at the restaurant at about 2 a.m. May 26 and found the manager, a 23-year-old Lincoln Park woman, bleeding from the mouth, reports said. She told police a patron struck her after she asked him to leave since he didn't order anything after quite awhile.

"He didn't care much for that approach, and no he's charged with assault," Birmingham Deputy Chief Mark Clemence said.

Birmingham firefighters treated the woman at the scene for cuts and bruises, and transported her to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak for stitches, reports said.

Officers cited the 22-year-old man for assault and battery, a misdemeanor, and released him upon posting an undisclosed bond. He could face up to 93 days in jail, if convicted.
