Man charged in theft of laundry detergent
Police apprehended a man accused of stealing two containers of Tide laundry detergent from on Aug. 5. According to police reports, store employees saw a man place the detergent into a green bag around 10 a.m. He then left the store, but reports said store employees followed him outside and called police. While officers were on their way, the dispatcher on duty was able to locate the man around Woodward Avenue and Maple. Reports said officers found the man, found the stolen merchandise and took him into custody. Police said the man was charged with retail fraud, then was turned over to the Michigan Department of Corrections for a parole violation warrant.
Driver hits parked car on Yosemite
A man was arrested around 1:25 a.m. Saturday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after his vehicle hit a parked car on Yosemite Drive. Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Yosemite and, after talking to the driver, they reported that they believed him to be intoxicated, according to the police report. A Breathalyzer test later determined that his blood-alcohol level was over the legal limit, according to reports, and he was later charged.
Neighbors report teenagers smoking marijuana in Booth Park
A report has been turned over to the Birmingham Police Department’s juvenile officer after a teenager ran away from an officer Sunday evening in . According to police reports, officers responded to a report around 7 p.m. that juveniles were smoking marijuana on the foot trail at Booth Park. When officers arrived on the scene, they found one teenage boy whom they described in reports as “acting suspicious.” While speaking with him, the boy ran away from the officer, the reports said. Officers were later able to identify the boy, who lived in Birmingham, and contacted his parents.
