Homeless Man Assaulted in Birmingham

Police said they arrested a 32-year-old Bloomfield Township who reportedly claimed a homeless man stole his marijuana.


Officers with the Birmingham Police Department arrested a 32-year-old Bloomfield Township man for allegedly assaulting a homeless man at the downtown Subway last week. 

Police responded to the eatery at 126 South Old Woodward at about 8 p.m. on Nov. 15 and interviewed the victim, who said the suspect accused him of stealing his marijuana and began choking him with his hands, reports said. Authorities did not report any serious injuries.

Officers arrested the alleged assailant without incident and issued a citation for 
assault and battery, a misdemeanor. He posted bond and was released with a court date pending.
