Door to Downtown Business Glued Shut in Birmingham

Separate incidents reported at the Carol Lewis Day Spa and a Mobil gas station.

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department responded to two malicious destruction of property reports last week.

The front door to the Carol Lewis Day Spa, located at 386 East Maple Rd, was apparently sealed shut with what appeared to be super glue, police reports said. Officers responded to the business after employees reported difficulty getting inside at about 9 a.m. on Nov. 22.

Police determined that someone put what appeared to be super glue in the door lock. A locksmith arrived and helped employees access the building. Business was not interrupted. There are no suspects or witnesses, and the incident remains under investigation.

An employee at the Mobil Gas Station at 36101 Woodward Ave. called police after a customer entered the men's bathroom and damaged the garbage can by kicking it repeatedly at about 3 a.m. on Nove. 24, reports said. Birmingham officers locate the suspect nearby and arrested the 22-year-old Detroit man for malicious destruction of property. He was released on bond and a court date is pending.
