'Dark Knight' Shooting Could Not Have Been Prevented, Local Theater CEO Says

Emagine Entertainment CEO Paul Glantz said in a statement today that "no reasonable level of security would have effectively addressed the tragedy that unfolded in Aurora, Colorado" early Friday morning, when a 24-year-old gunman opened fire in a crowded movie theater, killing 12 people and injuring dozens more at the midnight premiere of the new Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises.

Emagine operates theaters in , Novi, Rochester Hills, Canton and Woodhaven.

After expressing his sympathy for the victims, Glantz stated that security of its guests is Emagines' foremost responsibility and urges movie-goers to "view such events in the context of a historical perspective."

"Just as no realistic building code provision could save a building from a direct hit by a 747, no practical security measures are sufficient to preclude a madman intent on committing mass murder," Glantz said.

The Huffington Post reported that Warner Brothers canceled its 'Dark Knight' Paris premeire because of the violence in Colorado. out of respect to the victims in Colorado.

Already theaters across Michigan are re-thinking their policies in light of the tragedy. Mike Mihalich of the Oak Park-based MJR Theaters said , including masks. MJR is also reconsidering offering midnight movie releases.

Representatives from Uptown Entertainment, which owns the Palladium 12 and Birmingham 8 in Birmingham, did not responded to interview requests Friday though .
