Catalytic Converter Theft on Derby Similar to Incidents in Bloomfield Township

Catalytic converter cut off vehicle parked off Derby, similar to Bloomfield Township thefts
A catalytic converter was reportedly cut off a 2002 Pontiac parked in a parking lot on the 1200 block of Derby. According to police reports, the incident occurred sometime between noon and 1 p.m. on Halloween.
The incident is similar to a string of catalytic converter thefts in Bloomfield Township. According to the Bloomfield Patch, catalytic converteres were cut off two vehicles on Oct. 28 and Oct. 29 at the Fox Hills Condominiums in Bloomfield Township — the fourth and fifth of such thefts in the township since the spring.

The converters, which are used to filter the engine's emissions, are commonly targeted by thieves because of the valuable metal components inside, such as platinum or palladium, authorities said.
Holy Name Church reports attempted breaking and entering
Police are investgating an attempted breaking and entering that occurred at the Holy Name Catholic Church overnight Sunday.

According to police reports, someone tried to pry open an office door between 11 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday. No one got into the office, however, and nothing was reported stolen.
Snow blower, used refrigerator stolen from residents' homes
A snow blower and refrigerator were reported stolen from Birmingham homes during the past few weeks.
According to police reports, the snow blower was taken from an unlocked garage on the 1700 block of South Bates sometime between Oct. 23 and Monday, Nov. 5.
Meanwhile, a used refrigerator was taken from a front yard on the 1400 block of Norfolk sometime between 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday. According to reports, the homeowner placed the refrigerator in front of his home so that DTE could pick it up and issue a $40 rebate for recycling.
