Masked Man Robs Birmingham's Comerica Bank Friday Morning

Birmingham Police are working with the FBI to investigate a Friday morning bank robbery at the Comerica Bank on West Maple Road in Birmingham.

According to reports from the Birmingham Police Department, a lone suspect entered the bank, located at 1712 West Maple Rd., around 10:05 a.m. wearing a black ski mask and pulled out a hand gun.

The man approached the tellers, police say, and demanded money. After tellers handed over their cash — at least $9,000, police say — the man fled the bank, running westbound along Maple.

The bank, which is located at the intersection of West Maple and Chesterfield, is directly across the street from the Birmingham Fire Department's Chesterfield Station.

Investigating officers believe the man ran to a waiting vehicle and fled the area, although police aren't sure what this vehicle may have looked like.

The man was described by witnesses as approximately 5-foot-eight-inches tall with a thin build. Besides the ski mask, he was wearing a black hat, black sweatshirt, black gloves and dark-colored snow pants.
