Birmingham Police Make Drunken Driving, Marijuana-Related Arrests

The Birmingham Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department stopped several motorists on suspicion of operating while under the influence or being in a vehicle in the presence of illegal drugs over the past week. Here are the incidents highlighted from recent police reports.

  • A 21-year-old Highland Park woman was arrested for drunken driving after an officer witnesses her vehicle driving erratically and speeding on Woodward Avenue near Wimbleton at about 2 a.m. May 10, reports said. Officers found a bottle of tequila inside the vehicle and determined she was under the influence. They issued citations for operating while intoxicated and possessing open alcohol in a vehicle. She was released upon sobering up and a court date is pending. 
  • Officers arrested a 27-year-old Grosse Pointe man after stopping his vehicle for speeding in the area of Yosemite near Adams Street at about 1:30 a.m. on May 12, police reports said. They determined he was under the influence of alcohol and issued a citation.
  • Officers arrested a 20-year-old Huntington Woods man who was smoking marijuana behind the wheel of a parked car in the Park Street parking structure at about 7 p.m. on May 11. The officer was on patrol in the structure and saw the vehicle parked with two people inside. Police found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the driver's possession and cited him for both violations. 
  • A 21-year-old Oak Park man faces charges for openly smoking marijuana in downtown Birmingham on May 15, reports said. An officer spotted the man sitting along Maple Road near Adams Street smoking a blunt. Police issued the man a citation for possessing a controlled substance and released him on bond pending a court date.
