Police recover vehicle stolen in Troy on Bowers

Birmingham Police recovered a stolen vehicle on July 27 on the 1700 block of Bowers. According to police reports, a resident called police around 7 a.m. that Friday, telling officers there was a 2001 Jeep Cherokee in the street with the engine running and no one in the area.

Responding officers discovered the car's ignition had been removed and was lying on the floor. Reports state the car's owner lived on the 1800 block of Kirst Road in Troy. When contacted, the owner didn't know his vehicle had been stolen from his parking lot overnight.

Officers respond to attempted car theft at apartment complex

Police say there was an attempted car theft the evening of July 26 on the 2700 block of East Maple. According to police reports, the car was parked in the parking lot of an apartment building overnight, and the attempted theft occurred between 8 p.m. and midnight.

The car's owner told police the following day that her driver's side window had been broken out and her ignition and transmission had been tampered with.

Police discover graffiti downtown; woman reports side mirror broken off her car

Police are investigating two incidents of malicious destruction of property from the last week. According to reports, the first incident occurred sometime overnight July 25, in which an unknown person used permanent marker to write "cold" and "asure" on the buildings near 300 S. Old Woodward and 355 E. Maple Rd.

Meanwhile, a woman on the 600 block of Humphrey reported to police that the driver's side mirror of her car was broken off overnight Wednesday. According to reports, the woman said she heard a loud noise outside her home around midnight. When she looked outside, reports said she saw two young men running away from her vehicle.

Diamond ring, purse taken from cars; laptop lifted from office

Several items were reported stolen from various cars and workplaces over the week:

  • A diamond ring and Garmin GPS were taken from a vehicle parked on the street near Columbia and Maple overnight Sunday. Police say the vehicle's owner isn't sure whether the car was locked.
  • A purse was taken from a car parked near 444 S. Old Woodward between 11 a.m.-12:25 p.m. Tuesday. The car's owner said she isn't sure whether the car was locked.
  • A MacBook Pro laptop computer was taken from an office at 950 S. Old Woodward between 3:15-3:25 p.m. Wednesday. According to police reports, the employee walked away from her desk for a few minutes and found her laptop missing. Her desk, she said, is located in an open area near the business's front door.
