Birmingham Police Investigate Baby Formula Theft, Numerous Larcenies This Week

The Birmingham Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department arrested a 43-year-old Pontiac man 
who tried to steal five bottles of baby formula from the Kroger at 685 East Maple Rd. on Aug. 30. 

Police responded to a call from store security at about noon and arrested the man without incident, reports said. He was also in possession of drug paraphernalia and could face multiple charges upon review of the case by prosecutors. 

Larcenies

Officers also investigated multiple larceny reports from the past week. 
  • A Birmingham resident told police he rode his blue Trek bike to the CVS at 444 South Old Woodward Ave. at about 5 p.m. Sept. 2 and left it unlocked near the rear entrance located off of Frank Street. When he returned from shopping about twenty minutes later, the bike was gone, reports said. Prior to entering the store, he noticed a teenage boy walk up to his bike and look at it, report said. The was about 15 years old, and described as between 5-feet-10 inches to 6-feet tall, with a thin build and short dark hair. He wore blue shorts and a white t-shirt.
  • A contractor working in the 1800 block of Henrietta reported his orange Ridgid shop vac was taken from the driveway near the house between 1:30 p.m - 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 28, reports said. No suspects information was available.
  • A 15-year-old Bloomfield Hills boy told police he was standing outside of Pogo, located at 383 Hamilton St., when an stranger approached and asked to use his cell phone at about 1 a.m. Aug. 30. The man took the phone and ran away, reports said. Police said they used the victim's description of the man to identify a suspect and continue to investigate.
  • A woman reported her mother's wheelchair was taken from outside of Papa Joe's between 7:30-9 p.m. on Aug. 30. She told police she hid the wheelchair in the parking lot because she was having trouble trying to get it into her car. It was gone when she returned for it later, reports said. No suspect information was available. 
  • Two people reported their bikes were stolen outside of Double Up at 128 Old Woodward Ave. on Aug. 30. The victims told police the bikes were taken at about 8:30 p.m. and were not locked. They were described as a Trek Mountain Bike - black with blue stripes, and a black BMX bike with "FIT" in white letters on the frame. No suspect information is available.
