Birmingham Police Arrest Drunken Drivers with Shredded Tires

The Birmingham Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department made several arrests for alcohol or drug-related crimes over the past week. Here are the incidents highlighted from recent police reports.

  • Birmingham police officers responded to a report of a vehicle driving with a tire missing in the area of 14 Mile Road at about 3 a.m. on Nov. 2, reports said. Officers located the vehicle parked on Old Woodward near Euclid and determined the driver, a 24-year-old Garden City man, was under the influence of alcohol. They arrested him without incident and released him on bond upon sobering up with a citation for operating while intoxicated. It was unclear how the vehicle was damaged. 
  • Birmingham police on patrol saw a vehicle driving very slowly with a shredded tire and exposed rim in the area of Woodward and Euclid at about 4:30 a.m. Nov. 3. Officers determined the driver, a 55-year-old Royal Oak man, was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him without incident. He was released on bond upon sobering up and issued a citation for operating while intoxicated.
  • Birmingham police officers responded to a report of a homeless person sleeping in the elevator in the North Old Woodward Parking Structure at about 4:30 a.m. Nov. 2, reports said. The officers found the 33-year-old man from Southfield and identified him from a prior warning received for sleeping in the elevator in the Pierce Parking Structure in October. The officers arrested him and issued a citation for trespassing. A court date is pending.
