Birmingham Man's Identity Used to Forge Checks 20 Years After Death

Investigators traced the name back to a man who died decades ago, police said.

Detectives with the Birmingham Police Department are investigating how a dead man's identity was used to purchase garbage disposals from a local store with fraudulent checks.

Officers responded to the Whittock Supply Kitchen and Bath, located at 950 S. Old Woodward Ave. on Tuesday and spoke with the manager, who told them the store received a fraudulent check from a customer who recently purchased two garbage disposals. Authorities verified the name on the check and diver's license presented at the time of purchase belonged to a Birmingham resident that died 20 years ago, reports said.

Anyone with information is asked call the department at 248-530-1852.
