Birmingham Jogger Struck, Injured By Motorist on Lincoln

An icy windshield prevented the driver from completely seeing the jogger Wednesday morning, police said.

A 30-year-old Birmingham jogger was transported to Beaumont Hospital Wednesday morning with injuries suffered when a vehicle struck her on Lincoln Street, police said.

The woman is recovering at the hospital with injuries described as minimal by authorities late Wednesday morning. However, responding officers with the Birmingham Police Department initially were unsure of the seriousness of the woman's injuries and shut down the road for more than an hour while they took measurements and investigated, Lt. Terry Kiernan said.

The initial investigation showed the woman was running westbound on Lincoln and crossing at the Torry Street intersection when the southbound vehicle struck her shortly after 9 a.m., Kiernan. The driver, a 17-year-old Birmingham resident, told police she did not see the jogger in the crosswalk. She just left her home and didn't completely clear the front windshield of ice, according to reports.
