Birmingham Home Burglarized; Man Steals Cell Phone

The Birmingham Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.


Officers with the Birmingham Police Department are investigating a burglary in the 2400 block of Radnor, reports said. 

The resident told police they returned home at about 11:30 pm on June 29 and found dresser drawers opened and rummaged through. A jewelry box and cash were taken.

Police found damage to the back door and door knob, but said the deadbolt was still in place. They also found an open bathroom window with a damaged screen  on the ground and determined the intruder or intruders entered there, reports said. No suspect information was available. The burglary occurred sometime after 5:30 p.m. that day.

Cell phone theft
An 18-year-old Milford man faces larceny charges after he stole a cell phone from a woman on a Birmingham street. 

The victim, 31, told police she was walking on Davis Street at about 11 p.m. on July 2 when a man approached her and asked to use her cell phone in order to call for a ride. He then took the phone and ran off toward Grant Street. The woman screamed and chased him, prompting a citizen nearby to call police. 

Officers responded to the scene and learned the suspect ran into a yard in the 1700 of Grant Street. They found the man in the backyard and arrested him without incident, reports said. Officers also found and returned the phone, and authorities charged the man with larceny from a person.

Shoplifter caught
A 21-year-old Royal Oak man faces retail fraud charges for taking multiple packages of cold medication from Walgreens without paying, reports said. 

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department responded to the store at 34300 Woodward Ave. about 5 p.m. June 27 after the man took the packages off the shelf and left without paying. Using the man's description and a license plate number provided by witnesses, the officers identified the man and forwarded the case to prosecutors.
