Bah Humbug! Thieves Steal Holiday Decorations, Gifts Ahead of Christmas

The following information was supplied by the Birmingham Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

It's going to be a frustrating Christmas for several Birmingham residents after thieves made off with holiday decorations and gifts only days before Christmas.

According to the Birmingham Police Department, the decorations were taken sometime between 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12. A resident on the 2300 block of Radnor told police that several of their Christmas decorations, including lights and greenery, were stolen from the front of their home and yard. Police have no suspects so far.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, a resident on the 1600 block of Webster reported that several packages left on his front porch had been stolen.

According to police, the packages were intended to be Christmas gifts and had been left there by a friend around 8 p.m. Saturday. When the homeowner looked for them around 8 a.m. Sunday, they were gone. Police say there are no suspects or witnesses in that case either.

The 1600 block of Webster was the site of another recent home invasion, this time on Wednesday. According to police, two men from Detroit were arrested after homeowners said they caught the men sneaking into their home around 5:30 a.m. During the search for the men, the Our Shepherd Lutheran School on Lincoln had to be locked down for an hour.

Police caught the two men — one was detained about a block from the scene while another was found in Detroit, using a stolen vehicle's OnStar system. Police are investigating to see if the two men have been involved in other crimes in the area.
