Baby Formula Thief Stopped At Kroger; Motorists Arrested

The Birmingham Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

A shoplifter tried to steal four canisters of baby formula from the Birmingham Kroger by hiding them under his coat last week, police reports said. Store security stopped the man at the exit at about 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 12 and retained the merchandise, but the man fled before police officers arrived. The man drove away from the parking lot in a blue Dodge Neon.

Police reports described him as a Chaldean male, about 6-feet-tall, with a medium build and a goatee and moustache. He had dark, slicked back hair, and wore a black peacoat and blue jeans.

A resident in the 1400 block of Washington Boulevard told police that she discovered two bracelets and a necklace missing on April 10, reports said. authorities interviewed a private contractor who was in the home prior to the discovery and the investigation is ongoing.

  • Birmingham police arrested a 45-year-old Royal Oak man after they witnessed the man's vehicle weave between lanes on Woodward Avenue near 14 Mile Road and run a red light at the intersection at about 2 p.m. Saturday, reports said. Officers determined he was under the influence of alcohol and issued a citation for operating while intoxicated.
  • Birmingham police arrested two teens for being under the influence of alcohol and cited them for being minors in possession early Sunday morning, reports said. Officers spotted a vehicle parked in the Walgreen's parking lot at about 2 a.m. and approached to speak to the driver. They determined the driver, a 19-year-old man from Warren, and a 19-year-old woman from Macomb in the passenger seat were drinking alcohol. They arrested the pair without incident and a court date is pending.

 

Malicious destruction of property

The window of Bloomfield Hills resident's vehicle was smashed while parked on Harmon Street in Birmingham last week, police reports said.

The 78-year-old victim told police she returned to her vehicle parked in the area of Harmon and Old Woodward Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. on April 10 and discovered the triangle window on the passenger side was shattered. Police also found pry marks on the top of the rear passenger door. Nothing appeared to be missing, and the investigation is ongoing.
