Authorities Confirm Two Birmingham Men Killed in Plane Crash Near Boyne City

The single-engine, fixed-wing aircraft was headed from Boyne City Municipal Airport to Oakland-Troy Airport when it crashed early Monday.

Authorities in northern Michigan and family and friends confirm that Birmingham residents Todd Lloyd Christopher Neumann died in a plane crash shortly after takeoff Monday in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula, MyFoxDetroit.com reports.

Funeral arrangements for Lloyd, 51, and Neumann, 38, were pending Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities said the single-engine, fixed-wing aircraft was headed from Boyne City Municipal Airport in Charlevoix County to Oakland-Troy Airport when it crashed, said Tony Molinaro, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration. There were no reports of survivors.

Published reports indicate the crash occurred near 7 a.m. Monday about 45 miles northeast of Traverse City. The wreckage was found several hundred yards from a road that was reachable on foot or by snowmobile.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause.
