Accident on Woodward Blocks Traffic During Rush Hour

Two cars collide at intersection of Woodward and Oak Street; police report no injuries.

An accident on southbound Woodward Avenue near Oak Street caused traffic to back up at least a half mile to Quarton Road during Wednesday afternoon's rush hour. According to police, there were no injuries.

Two cars collided at the light near Oak Street, near the . The and were on the scene around 5 p.m. Wednesday. An ambulance was also on the scene as well as a group of people in the median speaking with police officers.

The accident occured around 4:30 p.m., according to Saleem Ghafari, who was working at the Mobil gas station at the time. He said he didn't see the accident.

"I was just standing here and suddenly I look up and Woodward is all backed up," he said.

The intersection is a particularly busy one during rush hour. Old Woodward branches off from Woodward just north of the gas station, leaving cars gridlocked on both streets. Cars honked as police directed southbound traffic through to Old Woodward.
