End of the Patch?

There is no doubt the Patch concept of micro local news is proving to be a troubled or possible non-viable business model.  AOL has propped up the Patch for years thinking they were on to something here. Personally I wish they were.  Micro local news has the abltily to brind local minds together and start movements. Recently AOL sold the Patch.  Both sides tried to put a smile on it, but... well you know.

Have you noticed lately the Patch is becoming more and more non-local?

Have you noticed the sudden influx of comments from users you have never seen before?

Have you noticed more and more focus on "trending" new articles not related to the micro local area?

Those in control must believe opening it up a bit is the way to go to profitably.

What do you think?
