Next Tuesday, you will by virtue of your vote, hire someone to represent you in the Government of the State of Michigan. It’s a hire decision which you as CEO of your own life make many times each day.  Some hire decisions such as what to have for lunch are relatively inconsequential. Others like who you marry, or where you work are more consequential. The decision you make or not make for State Representative on Tuesday August 7th may seem unimportant now but that may change at any time.  Say for example you neighbor is detonating what seems to be TNT in his in backyard.  Your dog is howling and your house is shaking. You make the usual calls to authorities and are told it is all, by virtue of the Governor’s new fireworks law, perfectly legal.

How could you change that law or if you are the neighbor , maintain one’s right to “dynamite”? That is one of many examples where your state rep may be of assistance.  Key word “represent.” In the chain of command if you strike out with the City the next step up the ladder is your state rep.

Therefore  this  author is pleased to present an informal and unofficial  Bio of Michael McCready  Republican Candidate for State Rep 40TH district. Read it at your leisure between now and Election Day and then go with your gut. Does this guy sound like somebody you would trust to get the job done?  Is it somebody you could relate to or who would relate to you? What if anything do you have in common? Politicians are always telling you how important they are or what big ideas they have. For this job however you need someone who will listen your ideas and make you feel as important as you are.

Product of the Birmingham School System

Michael McCready is a lifelong resident of the City of Bloomfield Hills. He is 51 years old, and family man with wife and two school aged kids. By virtue of school district lines that cross city limits He is a product of Birmingham Schools and and a graduate of  Seaholm Class of 1978. The economic downturn of the early 1980’s meant he had to work his way through Western Michigan University before graduating in 1983.

Business Owner

Today he owns his own business, McCready and Associates on Adams Road in Birmingham. Macready’s firm represents a number of products in the furniture industry and travel statewide, often overnight is required.

The Comeback Kid

Despite those demands McCready has never missed a commission meeting  in what he calls his avocation. That would be sitting  on City Commission in Bloomfield Hills where he has served for the last five years. For such services he is paid $5 a month or $60 a year, the same as any city commissioner. Prior to that from 2003 to 2007 he worked his way up from various appointed positions to a board chairmanship. He also ran for City Commission  every  year and lost. Once by one vote. In 2007 he was finally elected to City Commission. In 2009 when he sought re-election he received the highest vote total of any candidate in Bloomfield Hills in the modern era. In 20011 he was again the top vote getter in a field of four. Currently he is the City's Vice Mayor or Mayor Pro Tem.

Mayor McCready and the Baldwin Library

As Mayor of Bloomfield Hills he maintained the Public Safety Department the people wanted and he negotiated a $184,000 annual agreement with the Baldwin Library. For both communities it was a win win situation. For the City of Bloomfield Hills it was the first city wide participation in a library after nine years of failed $500,000 a year millage proposals with the Township Library. The Agreement also returned the Baldwin Library to full time, full staff status, and helped balance the Baldwin Budget.

4,000 people as Small Potatoes?

Some say McCready’s administrative and legislative accomplishments don’t count because The City of Bloomfield Hills, with a little less than 4000 residents,  is small potatoes. People who say that may regard you as a single solitary citizen, as a potato as well. That is not how McCready thinks. When his term of as Mayor ended in 2011 an area publication that covers many communities wrote..

“As Mayor (McCready) has shown great respect for resident opinion allowing them to express themselves in public hearing, listening attentively to their point of view and responding in kind.”

Endorsed By the Detroit Free Press

The Free Press said McCready's municipal experience will help cities  in the 40th District like Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills. In addition his expertise  would help the legislature as a whole which is now witnessing wide spread municipal foreclosures elsewhere in the nation.

A Promising Beginning

If he gets overwhelmed he has volunteers who help out. Not a bad start for somebody who wants to be your State Representative in Lansing.
