I did not serve in any combat area but, I did retire from the Army after 21 years of service which is why I believe in honoring those who served in war and served their nation in peace but, I have some serious questions as to why we find it easier to find a war than it is to find employment.

I truly believe that the only real  reason for war is:  Genocide 1 "the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group" … a legal definition is found in the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CPPCG).
Article 2 of this convention defines genocide as "any of the following acts
committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or reigious group, as such: killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life, calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; [and] forcibly transferring children of the group to another group."

Below you will find the effects of Genocide and/or Cannon Fodder used since World War I:

(“Cannon fodder 2 is an informal, derogatory term for military personnel who are regarded or treated as expendable in the face of enemy fire. The term is generally used in situations where soldiers are forced to deliberately fight against hopeless odds (with the foreknowledge that they will suffer extremely high casualties) in an effort to achieve a strategic goal. An example is the trench
warfare in World War I. The term may also be used (somewhat pejoratively) to differentiate infantry from other forces (such as artillery, air force or the navy), or to distinguish expendable low-grade or inexperienced soldiers from supposedly more valuable veterans.”)

The total number of military and civilian casualties in World War I
was over 37 million. There were over 16 million deaths and 20 million wounded
ranking it among the deadliest conflicts in human history. 3

“World War II, or the Second World War (often abbreviated as WWII or WW2), was a global war that was underway by 1939 and ended in 1945. it resulted in 50 million to over 70 million fatalities. These deaths make World War II by far the deadliest conflict in all
of human history.”

“The Fogotten War…The Korean War (Korean: 25 June 1950 – 27 July 1953)

Korean War Deaths: “According to some estimates: 33,741 Americans,
but about 2,800,000 total casualties counting North Korea (military and civilian), South Korea, China and UN troops. 5

“The Vietnam War that occurred in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia
from 1 November 1955 to the fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975. U.S. military involvement ended on 15 August 1973 as a result of the Case–Church Amendment passed by the U.S. Congress.

The war exacted a huge human cost in terms of fatalities (see Vietnam War
casualties). Estimates of the number of Vietnamese soldiers and
civilians killed vary from fewer than one million to more than three million. Some
200,000–300,000 Cambodians, 20,000–200,000 Laotians, and 58,220
U.S. service members also died in the conflict.”

The United States' longest running war.

The War in Afghanistan began on October 7, 2001, as the armed forces of
the United States, the United Kingdom, France Australia,
and the Afghan United Front (Northern Alliance) launched Operation Enduring Freedom. The primary driver of the invasion was the September 11 attacks on the United States, with the stated goal of dismantling the al-Qaeda terrorist organization and ending its use of Afghanistan as a base. The United
States also said that it would remove the Taliban regime from power and create a viable democratic state. More than a decade into the war, NATO forces continue to battle a widespread Taliban insurgency, and the war has expanded into the tribal area of neighboring Pakistan. 8 and 9

As of October 1, 2012, United States Death Toll = 2000… 20 percent
stemming from insider attacks 10

Put this on your greeting cards this year no matter what faith or
culture you represent:

“World peace is an ideal of freedom, peace, and happiness
among and within all nations and/or people. World peace is an idea of planetary
non-violence by which nations willingly cooperate, either voluntarily or by virtue of a system of governance that prevents warfare. The term is sometimes used to refer to a cessation of all hostility among all individuals. For example, World Peace could be crossing boundaries via human rights, technology, education,
engineering, medicine, diplomats and/or an end to all forms of fighting. Since 1945 the United Nations and the 5 permanent members of the Security Council (the US, Russia, China, France, and the UK) have worked to resolve conflicts without declarations of war. However, the United States and other nations have entered several military conflicts since that time. Even without a declaration of war, the use of military force prevents the realization of World Peace.” 11
